Info about song

"Acadian Driftwood" is a song by Canadian-American roots rock The Band. It was written by band members Robbie Robertson. Richard Manuel, Levon Helm and Rick Danko. The song is about the Expulsion of the Acadians during the rivalry between the French and the British over what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and most of Maine. Robertson's lyrics were influenced by Longfellow's poem Evangeline, which describes the deportation of Acadians. The song has been covered by a number of other artists. The version by The Roches features on the 2007 multi-artist tribute album, "Endless Highway: The Music of The Band". Read more on Last.fm.
