Info about song

"Don't Phunk with My Heart", titled "Don't Mess with My Heart" on the radio edit, is a song by The Black Eyed Peas from their fourth album Monkey Business. It was released as the lead single from the album on May 10, 2005. The melodies used in the song were taken from two Indian songs from two 1970s Hindi/Indian movies: "Ye Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Diwana" from Don (1978) and "Ae Naujawan Hai Sub" from Apradh (1972). Both songs were originally composed by Kalyanji Anandji and sung by Asha Bhosle. This song was remixed for The Black Eyed Peas' fifth studio album The E.N.D. as "Don't Phunk Around." The opening music for the song is sampled from "Yeh Mera Dil Pyar Ka Diwana", an Indian song from the 1978 Bollywood movie Don. This same sample can be heard regularly in the MTV reality series The Hills when a segment ends before a commercial break. The rest of the melody used in the song is based on "Aye Naujawan Hai Sub Yahan", a song from the 1972 Bollywood movie Apradh. Both songs were originally composed by the Kalyanji Anandji brothers, sung by Asha Bhosle, and featured the dancer Helen Richardson. The Black Eyed Peas acquired the rights for the songs from the music label Sa Re Ga Ma, the copyright holders of both songs, though they never got in touch with Anandji Virji Shah, the surviving member of the Kalyanji Anandji duo. The song also uses a vocal interpolation of "I Wonder If I Take You Home" originally performed by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. In this exotic, but "phunky" jam, will.i.am, Apl.de.ap, and Taboo express their romantic interests in how much they enjoy Fergie's company. Fergie, however, is not convinced; although she likes them, she is feeling insecure, and wonders if she takes them home, if they'll still be in love with her. The men try to reassure her that they do love her, and that don't just want sex. Fergie is not buying it, and is cautious as she warns them, "No-no-no-no, don't phunk with my heart." In turn, "Don't Phunk with My Heart" was sampled by T.R. Silambarasan in his Tamil film Saravana as "Gori Tera" with Jyothika Saravanan in the single. The b-side "Bend Your Back" samples the song "Hip Hop vs Rap" by KRS One which is also a b-side. In 2007, a mashup music video billed as "The Black Eyed Peace [sic] ft Zdob şi Zdub—Don't Mess with Inima Mea" began appearing on the Internet, mixing "Don't Phunk with My Heart" with elements from the song "DJ Vasile" by Moldovan band Zdob şi Zdub. The word "Phunk" [sic: "Funk"] was replaced with "Mess" in the clean version due to possibly sounding too much like the word "Fuck" in the song. The video for the song is a parody of game shows, most notably The Price Is Right, The Dating Game, and Love Connection. Fergie is a beautiful girl, who her bandmates will.i.am, APL and Taboo attempt to win her heart by being chosen to go on a date with her by spinning a wheel to decide where they will go, then being teleported to the site. will.i.am takes Fergie on a horse-ride, APL takes her dancing and Taboo takes her to a restaurant, but each date ends badly with Voodoo Thursday sabotaging the boys' attempts. He makes will.i.am's horse buck him off, he electrically shocks APL when Fergie tries to kiss him, and he programs Taboo to grab another girl's butt. In the end, Fergie has to choose who to end up with. Voodoo then spins the wheel, it comes up "knock boots". When the time comes for Fergie to choose, Voodoo whispers something to Fergie, and they are teleported away. The members of The Black Eyed Peas all appear in the video: some in multiple roles. will.i.am plays himself, the host Voodoo Thursday, and the drummer in the live band. APL plays himself, the guitar player and the announcer, Fergie plays herself and Taboo plays himself and the pianist/keyboardist in the live band. A brief instrumental clip of the song can be heard on various episodes of The Hills as their cue for possible drama coming up. Released in 2005, the single reached number three in the United States due to high downloads, becoming The Black Eyed Peas' second top-ten single in the U.S. It also reached three in the United Kingdom. In the Latin America Top 40 the single is The Black Eyed Peas's fourth entry, the song debuted at #31, it reached the top ten (becoming their first top ten) three weeks later and peaked at #2 in its 11th week and stayed there for two weeks behind the mega Latin American hit La Tortura which hold the top of the chart for twenty weeks. "Don't Phunk with My Heart" is The Black Eyed Peas's 2nd biggest hit to date in Latin America; the song was the 10th most played song in Latin America in 2005. The Black Eyed Peas were nominated for two 2006 Grammy Awards for the song and won for "Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group". The song also won the BMI Award, which was awarded to the Kalyanji Anandji brothers, for their compositions of "Ye Mera Dil" and "Ae Nujawan" used as a basis for the song. The award was collected by Anandji Virji Shah, the surviving member of the duo. Read more on Last.fm.
