The song appeared as a licensed song on DDRMAX Dance Dance Revolution. Sandstorm is of the trance music genre of electronic dance music. Soon after release, the song became popular on pop radio stations, reaching #1 in Norway and entering the US Top 40, though its popularity waned soon after release. The song itself has also spawned many remixes, some of which span genres outside of the electronica genre. It is frequently used for sampling.
