Spot 1019 was a quirky comedic stoner rock band influenced by surf music, UFO's and a world gone mad that owed them a buzz. Fronted by a tall raspy voiced character with a penchant for pot, they started in Santa Cruz, California in the mid 1980's. Their first album, eponymously named "Spot 1019," was released on the Pitch-a-Tent label that was founded by members of local compatriots Camper Van Beethoven. Two songs from that album, "True Story" and "Surf Machine," received repeat airplay on regional Bay Area college radio stations such as KFJC, KUSF and KSJS. Spot 1019 went on to release This World Owes Me a Buzz in 1988 which was awarded an aluminum record plaque by the Pitch A Tent execs in a mock ceremony for break even sales at a Soquel nightclub . After relocating to San Francisco, where they were thoroughly emeshed and embraced by the bike messenger world, they signed to Lisa Fancher's Frontier label or 1990's "Still...Again. While officially unaffiliated, they managed to squeeze out two more self released CDs including 2002's "In Her Satanic Majesty's Secret Service Entrance" available from their website. The group occasionally reformulates itself at will for reunion shows, sometimes under the name Mashie Nibblick, but for fans, these events have occured far too sporadically over the years. The band is proud that they have far outsold the Beatles on the Apple i-tunes store.
