Soon after the demos were released on September 19, 1975, Linda Stein convinced her then-husband Seymour Stein, co-founder of Sire Records, to allow the band to perform under their record company.
The album reached number 111 in the United States on the Billboard 200 chart and was ranked number 33 on Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Ramones was said by Nicholas Rombes, author of the 33⅓ book Ramones, and the Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine to be the first album labeled as punk rock.
