Papa Sprain were an early-90s post-rock band, based in London but originally from Belfast. As one of the original UK post-rock groups, they are often mentioned in the same breath as Bark Psychosis and Disco Inferno. They were proteges of A.R. Kane and very closely linked to Butterfly child.
Their music was a peculiar mix of literate singer-songwriter pop with experimental noise-rock, feedback drones and primitive electronics. This sound was very much centred around the fragile voice and self-consciously modernist lyrics of the group's leader Gary McKendry.
They released three singles and recorded one Peel session. The group is long since defunct. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
