The first true Welsh Punk Rock Band. Featured Dafydd Rhys on vocals Julian Lewis on drums Peter Williams on Bass Gary Beard and Hywel Peckham sharing the guitar duties.
NCB lyrics were written by Gary Melville the manager of the band and the music was put togther by the band in the student halls of residence in Swansea University where Gary was studying sometime in 1977.
This was a very thirsty band and most gigs were played with a lot of alcohol intake which as you can imagine caused just one or two problems.
Numerous tv appearances. Only one with the original line up though.
The other sessions were completed by a different line up where Gary and Julian had left and were replaced by Huw Davies guitar and Richard Zammit drums.
This band had some outrageous stage antics with a tailors dummy which were sidelined when it was realised that venues just werent going to have it.
John Peel pioneered the record NCB on his show and it was chosen as single of the week in the Melody Maker during 1977.
If anyone had had the brain to take it a little more seriously then there would have been a better outcome,
As it was Gary left the original line up due to disagreements over noise levels. Julian left as the image of a punk drummer just wasn't doing it for him. Gary Melville the manager called it a day because he had new projects to look at and Ihink he had had a pantsfull of the behaviour overall.
Hywel and Pete really took the band on from there and recruited new members. Dafydd was already looking ahead to Drama College and just played
out the last few things.
As I recall it all came to a sorry end when none of the band turned up for a rock against racism gig that they were to headline. Rumour has it that they stayed at a local party for a few too many beers more.
A section of a live session recorded for a local radio station was released in Germany some years ago on seven inch vinyl and the song NCB has featured on many many punk compilation albums over the years.
I have it on good authority that the band is set for a reunion in the near future.
Worth a look if they play with the same power they used to.
Good quality musicians in this group whichever line up returns.
