Joining Harvill and the band in the studio was former Pantera and current Kill Devil Hill bassist Rex Brown, with Ben Bunker on backup guitar and John Luke Hebert on drums and the result is that Arms Of The Sun are a throwback to the halcyon days of classic songwriting, melody and big hooks. Brown and Harvill both grew up on a diet of classic rock primarily, but Brown’s early exposure to jazz certainly adds spice to the mix, as does his career with Pantera – one of the biggest and most influential heavy metal bands of the modern era. The resulting sounds is something both new and somehow classic – always a tough combination – but carried off with swaggering ease by a group of cohesive musicians whose considerable experience pull together as one. With material for a debut album already recorded at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales studio near Austin, Texas and scheduled for release during the early part of 2011, Arms Of The Sun have been spreading the word organically with as series of club shows mainly in the Dallas area, all of which have been received with the kind of fervour that only a band of this makeup could expect.
