Toli Morilla is one of the most influential singer-songwriters and performers of contemporary Asturian music. His “folk&roll” music is a melting pot of worldwide genres. He sings in both Asturian and Spanish, often using texts written by the poets of his homeland.
Toli’s latest album, ”Ten Bob Dylan Song in the Asturian Language“, contains ten exotic and exciting covers. The adaptations to Asturian were authorized personally by Bob Dylan. The album includes classics such as “Hurricane”, “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” or “Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right” as well as hidden jewels such as “The Man In Me” or “Sara”. A variety of musicians and instruments bring the songs to life, with production duties shared by Alberto Rionda (Avalanch), Jorge Otero (Stormy Mondays) and Toli himself.
RTPA (Asturian Radio Television) gave him the “Best Singer Song-Writer Album” award in 2009 by this work.
His album “Entropía” (Entropy) was released in November 2006. An exciting development of his many styles and influences, “Entropía” is destined to be his most successful album yet. Toli has been involved in music for many years and has worked on many artistic projects. His first solo album, “Nunca des la espalda” (Keep your back against the wall/Never let an opportunity pass you by) was released in 1998 and soon established him as one of Asturias’ finest singer songwriters. In 1999, Toli not only co-wrote but also arranged the hugely successful album “Tierra de nadie” (No Man’s Land) by the world famous piper “HEVIA”. He also worked on Hevia’s second CD “Al otro lado” (On the Other Side) in 2001.
In 2003 Toli released his second solo album, “Entre el barro y las preguntas” (Between Mud and Questions) which included two Spanish language covers of Bob Dylan songs, personally approved by Dylan himself. “Nueche D’Insomniu” (Night of Insomnia) was recorded in an ultra intimate studio environment and released in 2004. This extraordinary album has undoubtedly drawn the most critical acclaim and shows Toli’s innate sense of theatricality and performance. He has developed a collection of outstanding songs, using ancient texts and poems performed in the Asturian language. A live theatre performance of “Nueche d’insomniu” was also released as a CD-Book.
