The band was formed in the second half of the nineties. From the very beginning the group members are Marjan Bone, Goran Podgorelec, Boštjan Koren, Dejan Bračko and Robert Belšak. Igor Mešič joined in 2005. Their debut “LOVCI SREČE“ ( Hunters of luck ), which received excellent critiques and listeners’ support, was published at the end of 2000 at ‘Subkulturni azil’ publishing. They recognizability grew with the release of two videos, both of which were art projects created under the lead of important Slovenian directors: Gusl, directed by Neven Korda and Dotik Ljubezni, directed by Jan Cvitkovič. Working alongside Jan Cvitkovič later led to the creation of a TV series Daleč je smrt, for which the band composed an original song under the same title. As part of Radio-Television Slovenia Kvinton also recorded a full-length concert for the Sobotna noč show, and an acoustic version for the radio show Izštekani on Radio Val 202.
In the period between 2000 and 2008 they played all over the country. They appeared on nearly all smaller and bigger festivals and clubs (Lent, Medana, Trnfest etc). In the same time they meet with poet Borut Gombač as part of the project Rokerji pojejo pesnike, and transfer four of his poems into music for the purpose of individual project compilations: Steklo je kot moder dim, Ta, ki v tej noči po ulicah tava, Hromi Jošt and Nora Roza.
In the end of 2008 they publish another album, “RAZIRKLINGA” ( Razor blade ), which was again warmly welcome by the critics and the audience. They film two more videos: Vedno k tebi grem (Samo Vrabič) and Taxi (Neven Korda). Soon after, the publisher decided to release a collector’s vinyl record “DALEČ JE SMRT” ( Far is death ), which is a selection of songs taken from both albums and the never before heard Daleč je smrt from the eponymous TV series. In the period following the release of their second album they record two additional concerts for local television stations, TV Maribor and RTS Maribor, and a third one for ‘vest.si’ (Švic mikrofona show).
An approval of their musical expression is received also from abroad, as one of the leading genre magazines, MOJO, rates the remake of Joy Division’s Love will tear us apart at number 5 of the top hitlist. In 2009 and 2010 they form part of the festival La vie en rose at Cankarjev dom with Gusl (2009) and a remake of a song by Mojmir Sepe Pismo za Mary Brown (2010), and once again compete in the show Izštekani on Radio Val 202.
Something about the last album from KvinTon with the slovenian poet and writer Borut Gombač:
“BALADE NA BLEDEČIH TLEH” (‘Ballads on fading ground’) are more than just an example of the so-called poetry-in-music; they are an organic intertwinement of verse and music. The featured cycle leans greatly on the musical expression of Kvinton, both thematically, as well as rhythmically and sonically. The sound component of Gombač’s ballads suits perfectly the hoarse ballad voice of singer and band leader Marjan Bone. The written passages in minor are compatible with the minor tones of the accordion and other instruments (solo guitar, tambura, etc.), as well as the rasping accompanying vocals and typical Kvinton bass lines. Thematically, the cycle fits into an urban environment, depicting the fate of marginals – bums and any other type of particular city characters. They have been driven to the society’s edge by their maladjustment, which as a rule has something to do with their individuality or unrequited love. Though perhaps imperceptible at the first glance, these ballads in spite of their gloominess uncover in their sub-tones a hidden light and hope, even if only in the form of a mirage or a dream.
